Quality of movement (QOM) |
QOM is one of the aspects of joint mobility (others are range of movement and end-feel) that osteopaths feel for when assessing joints with palpation. Impaired QOM can result from: roughening of joint surfaces, which gives a grating feel called crepitus; swelling in the joint, which gives a mounting resistance; muscle spasm, which gives abrupt contraction of muscle to oppose movement; muscle hypertonia.which gives gradually increasing muscular resistance; joint locking or synovial inclusion, which gives a feel of hardly any movement at all, just a slight springing
